When you ask for something, you shall receive it. Before entering the New Year I wrote on my 2018 to do list book a flight to New Orleans. Surprisingly on Christmas I was gifted by my cousin a round trip flight welcoming the second month of 2019.
Girls trip! It turned out I was traveling for the first time with my cousins. I’m the kind of person who likes to plan things out, so I began asking around and doing my homework on some places to visit while in town.
Cafe de monde : Beignets (also known as funnel cake aka fritters) super popular spot if you’re interested in coffee and Pastries
Cajun : A place recommended by a local. Take-out joint. Seafood and Po-boys. I’m salivating just thinking about it.
Sylvain: Recommended by my coworker. A cute little brunch spot with outdoor seating and impeccable service.
Bacchanal : If you love wine, you must visit. (I missed out on this one) but, I heard great things about this place.
Daisy Dukes: Upon arrival came here for a quick brunch. It’s not fancy, but the food was on point. When in Louisiana you must have some Chicken and Waffles. (Buy one, get one free mimosa)
The prices for things out there are super affordable. Plus, staying at an Airbnb made it even easier to cook when we didn’t want to dine out.
The night life is TURN UP! Like all the way UP! Bourbon street is non-stop. The place I had the most fun at was Bourbon Heat. If you enjoy hip hop/rap then, this would be the spot for you. (Not for the boujie stand in the corner be cute, don’t like to break a sweat type) also, The swamp is fun if you’re down to ride a mechanical bull and listen to trap music for the most part.
Packing tips: Pack for comfort, I promise you will thank me later. I packed as if I would be gone for a week. Being the kind of woman who likes to have more options than one with outfits I packed a total of 5 shoes (only used 2 of the 5) New Orleans is a walking kind of city I would say essentials would be one pair of heels or two, one pair of sneakers, a jean jacket or leather, distressed denim gives that balance of warmth and coolness, one pair of shorts or biker shorts, cozy sweater, bralette or crop tops for night life. What I did most nights is kept my same bottom and changed my top to give a sexier vibe.
I must say this if you’re going to really enjoy Nola you have to go with the right people. People who will turn things into a party no matter the vibe because in the end it’s about what you make it.
The Alligator tour was super informative and what made it interesting the tour guide enjoying what he does for a living. You will learn about the trees, birds any wildlife while touring. Make sure you dress warm if you decide to visit Honey Island Gator Tour.
Overall, this trip was super fun and on my last night we went to a live jazz event on Frenchmen street. Don’t leave Nola without experiencing live jazz, you will not be disappointed.
