The New Year for me is my birthday. I start off with making a list the last day of July with all the things I would like to let go of, accomplish during the my month of the summer. When we think of birthday it's celebrating your life -- I use to love to "turn up" going out and spending cash on things I didn't necessarily need. Realize something, your birthday is meant to be spent how YOU want it to be. Celebrating you can be in the most minimalist way -- trip to the museum, ice cream, shopping spree, cook - off, home date(picnic blanket, candles, roses(or some sort of flowers) create the ambiance you desire.
Starting fresh in my new year is so exciting, sometimes I get really anxious when I'm getting closer to my day. I remember hearing a podcast from Joel Osteen not too long ago he said something along these lines if we treat everyday like its our birthday, we would receive all the things we want. My reasoning for bringing that into this is because when it's your born day you know that anything you WANT you will more than likely receive and we tend not to second guess it, because its OUR BIRTHDAY.
What if we lived everyday like it's our birthday? Take a minute to reflect on how you feel on your day and imagine that continuously. It feels so good. You know you are loved because we tend to receive tons of calls, text from our loved ones (social media --love is cool .. but, its nothing like a phone call or text) Think about how powerful you will feel on a daily basis knowing you are loved and you can have anything you want? Not just on your birthday but EVERYDAY.
Turning over a new leaf, means a new chapter -- sometimes harder to close the previous but also, very exciting to begin writing the next part of our story. Use your celebration of life to your advantage, you can do the drinks and good food but, also incorporate something you love and are passionate about and DO IT. This years celebration consisted of dance audition to start my day, dinner with my cousin at The Bedford, ended my night dancing salsa. Since it rained on Friday, I had to reschedule my picnic so, instead I had it after work on Sunday.
I've learned this year that creative, passionate, full of sweat lol and of course bubbly are the best birthdays for me. Balloons, cards, flowers, family/friends are the things that really made my celebration special aside from dancing into my day and out. I felt like such a badass jumping into something I probably wouldn't have done (audition -- on my day) it scared me a little, but I knew it would be worth it. Celebrate you, no matter how you feel today -- remember you are special and have a gift no one can take away. Start your New Year always before the New Year.
